We want the CBC, our public broadcaster, to be sufficiently funded to set a journalistic standard for serious reporting. Building a united Canada requires communication with independence and integrity.

That most successful public broadcasters in Western countries have fully funded public networks. Canada and the USA remain anomalies.
That measured per capita, broadcasting in Canada had the third lowest level of public funding of 18 Western countries in 2004, (2006 Nordicity study.) Our $28 per inhabitant was ahead of only New Zealand and the U.S., and far below the $80 average across 18 countries. Canada's funding was about one-fifth of the level of the leading country, Switzerland.
